Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid, a highly active hydration agent. The skin is made up of several layers and supported by the dermis and its collagen and elastin fibres. This network makes up the conjunctive tissue which contains spaces filled with water, protein complexes and hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid retains water and forms a dense viscoelastic network, thus playing an important role in skin density, cohesion, hydration and elasticity.
It is a glycosaminoglycane (or of GAG structure); glycosaminoglycanes constitute our skin’s moisture reservoir. Day after day, as a result of exposure to free radicals (sun, pollution, smoke), our hyaluronic acid is destroyed or consumed. At 50 years of age, it is estimated that only 50% of the original hyaluronic acid is left: the skin becomes dryer, and wrinkles appear. Hyaluronic acid works wonders to restore and maintain a hydrated, soft and firm skin.
It can also be used as post-surgery care to promote tissue reconstruction.
