THE TRUTH ABOUT COSMETICS

3 anti-aging ingredients (and natural) you absolutely need to know!

3 November 2017

Now you know it, natural ingredients or ingredients derived through biotechnology are at the heart of Clean Beauty. Therefore, today, we decided to share with you Claire’s expertise and passion (Claire is Director of Research at OFFICINEA) for 3 exceptional anti-aging ingredients known for their virtues.

1/ MIMOSA TENUIFLORA: THE STAR OF CELLULAR REGENERATION
You certainly don’t know it, and yet this small shrub from Mexico is the most effective ingredient of the plant kingdom. In fact, it is known for its extraordinary properties in terms of cellular regeneration.

If on one hand Maya healers already knew the virtues of the Mexican mimosa, on the other hand the scientific community rediscovered them during the explosion of a gas factory in Mexico City in 1984.” explains Claire.

More than 3000 people who suffered second and third-degree burns were treated with Mimosa Tenuiflora, due to lack of medicines. In just a few days it worked wonders, healing the injured tissues. After 15 days the skin was partially healed and it was then fully healed in less than a month. 90 days later, the hair started growing back and the skin was reconstructed with no damage or visible marks: it had been completely restored without a transplant. In our products, Mimosa Ténuiflora activates cell regeneration.

2/ HYALURONIC ACID (sodium hyaluronate): THE NATURAL COMPONENT OF YOUR SKIN
It is one of the main active ingredients in the fight against aging. It sure is: being one of the natural components of our skin, it contributes to its density, its cohesion, its hydration and its elasticity.

Over time, under the effect of free radicals, hyaluronic acid gradually decreases. Around the age of 50, we only have half of what we had”, states Claire.

The good news is, today science knows how to reproduce it by biotechnology, or more precisely by bio fermentation with microorganisms (streptococcus) involving raw materials such as yeast extract and glucose. In your cosmetic products, Hyaluronic Acid contributes to the hydration, the softness and the firmness of the skin.

3/ JOJOBA OIL, A REAL CHAMP WHEN IT COMES TO LOSS OF ELASTICITY
Jojoba oil is extracted from the eponymous shrub, which is native to southern Arizona, southern California, and northwestern Mexico.

Its chemical composition closely resembles that of human sebum. It is therefore very well tolerated and absorbed by our skin. It has the advantage of penetrating rapidly without leaving an unwanted greasy film on the skin.” says Claire.

It is found in a soft golden colour, and it is non-greasy to the touch; it contains many fatty acids that boost skin hydration by minimising water loss. It is also known for playing a role in cell regeneration and loss of elasticity. It contains vitamin E, which allows us to fight against free radicals, the main cause of premature aging.
